Inspired by her fascination with the night and the moon, the Alexandra de Curtis A/W 2011-12 collection is the designer’s nocturnal view of winter. The primary colours of the collection are dark and dusky; black, chocolate brown, green and grey. However, Alexandra’s outlook on winter is positive; where the wealth of diversity creates longing and where colours and materials arouse emotion and unleash desire. Colours play a powerful role in this collection. Strong, rich saturation is essential with colours that are warm and positive. Fiery yellows and oranges tantalise the senses and create a stark contrast to the dark palette of the bags. There is a sense of glowing that comes not only from colour, but also from the radiance and shine of the polished crocodile-print finishes that are explosions of coloured light on a bag handle or clutch detail.
